Live From London | Le vase brisé | online concert

LIVE From London is an online festival of live music recordings for at-home viewing. This summer’s programme includes the album launch concert of Le vase brisé, performed by tenor Thomas Elwin and pianist Lana Bode.

Le vase brisé is a concept album that traces the arc of a romantic relationship, from the passion of falling in love to eventual heartbreak. Designed to be listened to in sequence, the album features world premiere recordings by 19th-century composers Clemence de Grandval and Augusta Holmès, alongside well-loved works by Franz Liszt, Reynaldo Hahn, Henri Duparc, Lili Boulanger, Paolo Tosti, Pauline Viardot, and Vincenzo Bellini. Opening with Hahn’s A Chloris, the album explores love's joys and complexities, culminating in betrayal with Tosti’s Non t’amo più! and the title track by Grandval. The final tracks invite reflection on love, loss, and healing, with poetry by Petrarch, Sully Prudhomme, and Jean Lahor.

Le vase brisé marks the debut release of international tenor Thomas Elwin. Praised for his ‘outstanding voice’ (Rupert Christiansen, Telegraph), Thomas’s lyric tenor is heard regularly at leading opera houses and concert halls, including Glyndebourne, ENO, Berlin Philharmonie and Oper Stuttgart. Pianist Lana Bode is in high demand both on stage and in the recording studio, where her previous releases have been lauded as ‘expertly calibrated’ (BBC Music Magazine) and ‘deeply examined’ (Gramophone).
